Injuries have struck early at UEFA EURO 2008™. Croatia lost their key striker Eduardo da Silva months ago and then last Saturday Dutch forward Ryan Babel was ruled out with torn ankle ligaments. Italy's hopes of adding the Henri Delaunay trophy to their FIFA World Cup crown received a huge setback on Monday when captain Fabio Cannavaro suffered a similar injury to his left ankle.
Vieira doubt
France are likely to be without Patrick Vieira for their opening game against Romania as he is suffering from a thigh injury. Russia, already without talisman Andrei Arshavin who is suspended for the first two matches, are hoping that key marksman Pavel Pogrebnyak will be fit but the UEFA Cup's joint top scorer is suffering with a knee cartilage injury. Co-hosts Switzerland, meanwhile, may have to kick off the tournament without midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta.
