Pogrebnyak's EURO hangs in the balance

Russia striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is in danger of missing UEFA EURO 2008™ after being flown to Munich for further scans on a knee injury sustained last Wednesday.

Having already missed the UEFA Cup final with FC Zenit St. Petersburg through suspension, the 24-year-old has been nursing a knee meniscus injury suffered in Russia's 2-1 friendly win against Serbia. He has now been sent for a scan in Germany to assess whether he will be available for the finals, which begin for Russia with a Group D game against Spain on 10 June in Innsbruck. Pogrebnyak said: "My knee is aching a bit but I feel better now. I am recovering and working hard and I want to play at the European Championship very much." Russia goalkeepers Igor Akinfeev and Vladimir Gabulov also travelled to Munich, along with Russia's team doctor and fitness coach, although neither is believed to have any injury concerns
