Mozart fenced off for EURO
Some of Salzburg's most famous monuments will be fenced off during UEFA EURO 2008™ to ensure they are not too closely involved in the action at the finals.
Surveillance system
Amid fears that celebrating fans might be tempted to climb on to the famous Mozart Statue, or take a dip in the Residenzbrunnen fountain or the Kapitelschwemme (Horse Pond), all of which are located in the UEFA Fan Zone, it was decided to erect fences around the landmarks. "They are still accessible for photographers," said host city co-ordinator Wolfgang Weiss, adding with a smile: "We purposely avoided completely covering the monuments so that Mozart can watch the football as well." Austria's interior ministry have also installed a video surveillance system in the Fan Zone to further protect the famous monuments.
