Jankulovski hailed as Czechs' finest

Marek Jankulovski has been named the Czech Republic's Footballer of the Year for 2007, becoming the first defender to collect the award since Ján Kocián in 1990.

Club and country
Jankulovski, 31, received the accolade as the national team continued preparations for their UEFA EURO 2008™ warm-up match against Scotland on Friday. The AC Milan full-back took more votes than Chelsea FC goalkeeper Petr Čech and 2006 winner Tomáš Rosický, as reward for his service to his country and his role in helping the Rossoneri to UEFA Champions League glory in 2007.

Brückner recognition
Karel Brückner, meanwhile, was honoured as the Czech Republic's best coach yet again. The national-team trainer lost out in that category to Vítězslav Lavička last year, the first time he had failed to pick up the prize since 2001. Eintracht Frankfurt's 21-year-old forward Martin Fenin was chosen as Young Player of the Year.
